This unique village offers a “clock route“, consisting of 15 main stops and a few additional ones, where visitors can admire extraordinary and complex clocks, such as the perpetual calendar, the 1770 sundial, water clocks, giant flip clocks, and the nocturnal planisphere. Illegio is a charming village located in the municipality of Tolmezzo. It is famous for its natural landscape and historical mills along the Rio Tôuf stream. These mills, dating back to the 13th century, are a significant testament to the local agricultural economy, tied to grinding grains like corn. The area also offers paths such as the “Mill Route,” allowing visitors to rediscover these traditions through walks along the stream.
Among its points of interest, the Pieve of San Floriano stands out—a church overlooking the valley, built between the 9th and 10th centuries and renovated in the 14th century. Its architecture is a fusion of Gothic, Renaissance, and 18th-century styles. Inside, visitors can admire frescoes by Giulio Urbanis and a stone altar dating back to 1510, carved by the Lombardy artist Carlo da Corona. The artistic beauty of the Pieve was damaged by a theft about twenty years agowhich left the renowned wooden altar by Domenico da Tolmezzo severely damaged.
