Cycling Routes
FVG-8 Carnia Cycle Path: This scenic route follows the But River, starting from Tolmezzo and passing through Arta Terme, Sutrio, and Paluzza. From Paluzza, you can continue toward Ravascletto along quiet secondary roads. The route is considered moderate, approximately 36.7 km. Long, with, a gain of 384 m, and a top elevation of 600 m.
Panoramica delle Vette: Between Ravascletto and Comeglians lies one of Carnia’s most challenging and scenic routes. Perfect for mountain biking, it features an unpaved path of about 34 km with a significant elevation gain of 1,527 m. This route offers spectacular views of the surrounding mountains.
Comeglians-Sutrio-Ravascletto Route: A variation of the FVG-8 allows you to cycle between these villages via the Sella Valcalda Pass at an elevation of 958 m. It is ideal for experienced cyclists, featuring quiet secondary roads and stunning mountain landscapes.

The climb of Monte Zoncolan from Ovaro is one of the most challenging in Europe, often featured in decisive stages of the Giro d’Italia. The route is approximately 9.8 km long, with an elevation gain of 1,206 meters and an average slope of 12.3%, reaching maximum peaks of 22%. Known as “The Monster”, it has become a benchmark for cycling enthusiasts who want to test themselves on one of the toughest ascents in the international cycling scene.
These routes are excellent for discovering the authentic landscapes of Carnia, combining paved and unpaved sections. For expert cyclists, Monte Zoncolan, renowned for its extreme slopes, offers an great challenge. You can find detailed maps and GPX tracks to plan your itinerary.
